On June 19, 1865, the last enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom—a delayed but seismic moment that ignited the long journey toward true liberation. This Juneteenth, we honor not just the end of chattel slavery but the unbreakable spirit of those who turned survival into triumph and laid the foundation for every freedom movement that followed. At a time when the very principles of equity and justice are under threat, Black in Mayberry’s 4th Annual Juneteenth Festival stands as a defiant celebration of Black resilience, joy, and the enduring fight to claim our rightful place in America’s story.
Join us for a day where history’s echoes meet the heartbeat of today. Through music, art, food, and fellowship, we transform El Segundo Recreation Park into a sanctuary of remembrance and resistance—a space where generations gather to honor the past, celebrate the present, and reimagine a future rooted in freedom.

Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865—the day enslaved Africans in Texas learned of their freedom, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It’s a testament to resilience, a celebration of Black liberation, and a reminder of the ongoing fight for justice. In 2025, as diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives face political challenges, Juneteenth becomes even more vital. This festival is a bold declaration of our commitment to preserving history, uplifting Black voices, and fostering solidarity.
As the South Bay’s longest-running Juneteenth event, our festival roots itself in a region where Black contributions have historically been overlooked. By gathering here, we reclaim space, educate our community, and highlight the enduring impact of African Americans on Los Angeles’ cultural and social landscape.
Black in Mayberry is a grassroots organization dedicated to nurturing Black joy, empowerment, and belonging in El Segundo and the greater South Bay. Through events like this festival, we create spaces for dialogue, celebration, and collective growth—ensuring Black stories remain central to our shared narrative.
This isn’t just a festival—it’s a movement. Amid national challenges, we choose joy as an act of resistance. Together, we’ll dance, learn, eat, and honor the past while building a brighter future. Let’s show the strength of community and the power of celebration!
Spread the word, bring your neighbors, and celebrate freedom with us at El Segundo Recreation Park. Let’s make history, again.
