About the Event

Intro:

In the days following the election, we’ve seen a troubling rise in anti-Black sentiments, with disturbing public displays of bias and acts of violence targeting our community. Many of us are feeling the weight of uncertainty, wondering what the future holds, especially as we face the possibility of policy changes that could undermine the hard-won freedoms our ancestors fought for with their blood, sweat, and tears. There is a shared concern about the erosion of progress and the potential rollback of rights, freedoms, and protections we value so deeply.

Art & Healing:

This therapeutic art-based workshop, titled “Release and Gather,” is a space for us to come together in the face of these anxieties. Through art and connection, we will focus on releasing stress, disappointments, and worries, and gathering resilience, strength, and solidarity to face what lies ahead. This is a time for grounding ourselves and each other, recognizing that we are stronger when we connect as a community.

What You’ll Need:

A pencil or pen and a piece of paper. If you have them, please also bring colored pencils, crayons, or paints—anything to add color to your expressions.

Guidelines for Participation:

To create a genuine space of community, we ask that everyone keep their cameras on so we can see each other as we share and create together. Speaking is not required—silent participation is encouraged and welcomed. Whether you choose to stay muted or share your voice, your presence is valued.

This is a time to release, gather, and find strength in one another. Join us in creating a safe space to face the future with hope, solidarity, and shared resilience.
