This celebration unites all people across the diaspora, regardless of religion, ethnicity, age or other. We aim to come together under one roof, honoring our shared heritage while embracing the beautiful diversity within it. In coming together, we demonstrate that combating hate also means amplifying love, joy and unity.
Why This Fundraiser Matters
Black in Mayberry works year-round to amplify Black voices, share untold stories, and create transformative change through the arts. Your support at Umoja Diaspora directly funds our initiatives, from art therapy programs and social justice workshops to exhibitions that challenge systemic racism. By attending this event, you’re helping us continue this vital work and empowering our community to thrive creatively and collectively. Together, we can ensure that our message of unity and resilience reaches even further in 2025.
The Power of Coming Together
The festive season is a time for connection, reflection, and renewal. Umoja Diaspora is more than just a fundraiser—it’s an opportunity to celebrate the principles of Kwanzaa, such as unity (Umoja), creativity (Kuumba), and purpose (Nia). Coming together allows us to honor our shared heritage, strengthen our community bonds, and find joy in one another’s company.
This gathering is a chance to recharge and embrace the spirit of togetherness that fuels our mission. When we unite, we amplify the strength and beauty of the African diaspora and inspire meaningful change.
Reflecting on 2024 and Looking Ahead
This year, Black in Mayberry has made a profound impact:
• Hosting powerful art exhibitions such as Freedom.
• Expanding our Still Waters Art Therapy Program, helping youth explore healing through creativity.
• Bringing our community together for joyful and educational Juneteenth celebrations.
• Launching initiatives like the Butterfly Advocacy Activation to promote small actions for big change.
As we close 2024, we reflect on these milestones with gratitude and excitement for the year ahead. In 2025, we aim to:
• Launch new programs like our Social Justice Art Subscription Boxes.
• Continue empowering artists through our exhibitions and workshops.
